What is it

What Is a PDF Watermark Tool?

A PDF watermark tool stamps text or a logo onto every page of a document — a diagonal CONFIDENTIAL, a tiled SAMPLE pattern, or your company mark — to label, brand, or discourage unauthorized copying, without altering the underlying content.

PDFMaster's watermarking runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib and PDF.js, two JavaScript libraries. Your document is parsed, stamped, and rebuilt on your own device — it's never uploaded to any server, which makes it a safe choice for contracts, transcripts, invoices, and other sensitive paperwork.

Use it to mark drafts before review, brand reports with a logo, protect scanned IDs from misuse, or stamp sample documents before sharing publicly — all free, with a live preview so you see exactly what you'll get before downloading.

Accidentally closed your browser tab or refreshed by mistake? PDFMaster includes a built-in session recovery feature powered by browser IndexedDB. Your last file and exact watermark configuration are saved 100% locally on your machine, so you can restore your session in one click without losing precious time or paying for costly software subscriptions.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about watermarking PDFs with PDFMaster.

Is my PDF data safe? Does it get uploaded to a server?
No — your PDF never leaves your device. All watermarking happens entirely in your browser using pdf-lib, a JavaScript library. There is no server, no cloud storage, and no tracking of your file contents.
What's the difference between a text and an image watermark?
A text watermark stamps a word or phrase like CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT onto every page, with your choice of font, color, size, and rotation. An image watermark overlays a logo or picture you upload (PNG or JPG) instead, useful for branding documents.
Can I add a watermark in Hindi or Arabic?
Yes. PDFMaster automatically detects Devanagari (Hindi) and Arabic script in your watermark text and embeds a matching Unicode font, including correct Arabic letter joining. Other non-Latin scripts may not render correctly and will show a warning before you proceed.
Can I watermark only some pages instead of the whole document?
Yes. Choose All Pages, Odd, Even, or enter a custom range like "1-3, 5, 8-10" to watermark only the pages you specify.
Will the watermark cover up my text, or sit behind it?
You choose. "In front" places the watermark on top of your content, which is the most visible and reliable option. "Behind content" tucks it underneath your existing text, though this can be hidden on pages with a solid full-page background, such as some scanned documents.
Can I watermark multiple PDFs at once?
Yes. Add multiple files to the queue and the same watermark settings are applied to all of them. Download each file individually or get them all at once in a single ZIP archive.
Will watermarking reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. pdf-lib adds the watermark as new content without re-encoding your existing pages, so text, fonts, images, and vector graphics stay exactly as sharp as the original.
Is there a file size or page limit?
There's no server-imposed limit since nothing is uploaded. The only constraint is your device's available memory, which comfortably handles PDFs of a few hundred pages on most modern phones and computers.
Can I recover my last file if I accidentally close or refresh the tab?
Yes. PDFMaster has a built-in recovery mode powered by your browser's local IndexedDB storage. Your last uploaded document and customized watermark configuration (text, position, opacity, font, etc.) are saved 100% locally on your device. If your browser unexpectedly closes, simply click the Recovery icon in the header to resume right where you left off. This saves your precious time, requires no re-uploading, and is completely free without paying any hard-earned money.
