When you scan paper documents, snap photos of receipts, or save a
document as an image, your computer does not see letters or words.
Instead, it stores millions of colored pixels in a grid. Because
the text is rasterized, you cannot search inside it with
Ctrl+F, select sentences with your mouse, or copy-paste
vital data into a spreadsheet.
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) solves this
by running computer vision neural networks over the raster images.
The algorithm detects character baselines, glyph patterns, and
word boundaries to reconstruct editable typography.
1
Scanned Bitmap
Pixel grid of photographed paper with shadows and skew
2
Adaptive Binarizer
Separates ink glyphs from background paper textures
3
Neural LSTM OCR
Recognizes language characters and word coordinate bounding
boxes
4
Searchable PDF
Invisible selectable text layer placed under original scan
Unlike legacy server tools that upload your private files to
untrusted remote machines, PDFMaster executes the complete optical
character recognition engine right inside your browser using
WebAssembly and SIMD hardware acceleration.
